Tailoring or altering clothes to get a prope...True! Tailoring or altering clothes to get a proper fit can have a huge impact. Simply adding darts or tapering the sides can take a shirt from frumpy to chic.

Though it's not always about fitting the widest part... Almost all off-the-rack clothes are too short for me; a problem not easily fixed with alterations. One cannot tailor a sleeve to be 3" longer without adding fabric.

But the point is that too often we women view ourselves as "wrong" because clothes don't fit us. I once overheard a woman in a dressing room say "I can't fit this." Sadly, that is probably a more accurate way of expressing what many women think than "This doesn't fit me." We blame ourselves instead of the clothes.

I've gotten past most of that, thankfully. I used to practically cry over my broad shoulders and freakishly long arms. But now I just accept that blazers, jackets, and coats will never work for me, and build my wardrobe around stretchy cardigans instead.J.Banehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17195276109146618481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176007711635280067.post-24214521375950650282016-02-17T20:44:40.189-07:002016-02-17T20:44:40.189-07:00Jeans seem to fit no one properly... yet they'...Jeans seem to fit no one properly... yet they're a staple of so many people's wardrobes. Often they're too short... but then I've tried on jeans that were so long they puddled on the floor even with my boots on, when I'm 6' tall! Plus men's sweatpants that I wear at home.

When my hips were slimmer, I had pretty good luck with Levi's. Pants are a nightmare. I've almost entirely given up pants for skirts and dresses, unless I'm doing an athletic activity. The only pants I've found in the past ten years that remotely fit are men's Levis and a pair of Lucky brand that my friend bought at Costco, of all places.

So good luck on your pants quest.
