Princess Bane and the Frozen Peas

I haven't abandoned my blog.

I haven't been doing much lately because the summer heat drains my energy. I am the opposite of solar powered. I do not tolerate heat well. It makes me feel cranky and gives me a headache. I AM TIRED OF BEING HOT.

Last week was busy at work. This week will be busy, too... but I might as well be at the office because my home air conditioner has gone kaput. I want to break down and cry. Of everything in my house that could break, the air conditioner is the worst for me.

No heat? Gives me a chance to wear a sweater.
No hot water? I can heat water on the stove.
No running water? I know how to flush a toilet with a 1/2 gallon bucket.
No internet? I can read books.
No electricity? I can read books by flashlight or candlelight.

No air conditioning? I'm miserable. Sweaty, gross, cranky and miserable.

So I sit here in front of the fan with a cold towel around my neck and another on my legs. To help cool my core, I'm using a package of frozen peas as a lap desk. Aaaaah... cool and refreshing.

I wish I had 100 packages of frozen peas to sleep on.

That's how this princess likes her peas: frozen and on top of the mattress.

Yeah... I think my brain has overheated.

  1. I understand, summer makes me all miserable and half melted. I hope the air conditioning gets fixed soon!

  2. Many hugs, that are wrapped in frozen peas, and hoping that your air conditioner can be easily fixed at a low cost. Either that or a snow storm just magically appears in the local area. Wishing you the best.

    1. Thanks! The HVAC system is 16 years old, which is at or a bit past the expected lifespan. It had to be patched up last summer. So I may be looking at replacing the whole system. Not good timing after I drained my coffers on landscaping a few months ago.

  3. You poor thing! I was born and raised in Northern Minnesota, am now living in Georgia, and have a bad case of heat intolerance; the AC going out may as well be steps 1-4 of the Apocalypse. I hope it gets fixed soon for you!

    1. I spent my first 21 years in Georgia, including 3 living in a college dorm with no AC. Bad memories. BAD.

I joke that I soaked up so much heat during those years that I'm still carrying it around, and that's why I'm hot all the time. :P

    2. I always joke that I never got my Southern blood and my Northern blood still has too much anti-freeze in it. :)

  4. Oh dear home ownership is great when it goes well but when it doesn't it sucks. I hope you can get more comfortable soon I'll prayer to both the gods of frozen peas and winter gods for relief.

  6. I feel you, the townhouse we bought a few years back doesn't have AC, and the quote we got to get it installed was quite a bit more than we were expecting, as we need an electric upgrade for it as well. Luckily, our basement is finished, so I have there to retreat to. Also, those reusable icepacks that you can keep in the freezer are a godsend for no AC nights. (I have a few, because I am quite the klutz, lol!) Hang in there!

    1. Basements are a lifesaver in hot weather! I'm sitting in mine now, waiting for the HVAC guy to arrive. Upstairs in the house, it's 86 degrees F. Ugh!

    1. I've been wishing I had a window fan! The temperature outside is pretty comfortable after the sun goes down, but I need a fan to pull that cooler air in.

  8. The a/c went out a couple times in the apartment we were at before moving to our current home. It was so, so awful, here in the Texas heat.
I ran myself a cold bath and just soaked till I pruned up lol. So I feel ya.

    1. Yes, cold baths are great. And a good way to catch up on reading.

  9. I love falls and winters, I like spring, but throw summer in there and I'm miserable.. the heat aggravates my migraines, so most summers I'm on and off sick while having a running headache constantly.. I say the same thing all the time, if it's cold you can always put more clothes on, when it gets hot there is only so much a person can take off before they get arrested...

    1. Indeed. As of last year, I have eczema, and any kind of heat + pressure from clothing exacerbates it something fierce. Anything other than loose cotton causes a flare-up. I can barely make myself presentable for work.

  10. Ive started making my summer clothes out of all natural fabrics, mainly so I can still wear my beloved black without having a heat stroke.. I layer a loose dress over bloomers and everything breathes.. I honestly don't know how I survived Texas summers when I was a kid..

    1. Almost all my tops are cotton, and most of my skirts. It's surprisingly difficult to find dressier cotton clothes. Even the very summery styles such as loose tops and maxi dresses are made of polyester. The fabric flows nicely, but it doesn't breathe.
