Quick Update

I am making good progress on my kitchen facelift. :)  I've been priming in preparation for paint.

I've been using power tools. (LOVE my brad nailer!)

I've been... doing mysterious things that shall remain unexplained for now. ;)

The kitchen is in a state of disarray, of course, with the stove unplugged, the dishwasher wrapped in plastic, and the contents of the cabinets stacked all over. As I don't cook much anyway, this hasn't caused much trouble for me. Until today.

This morning, I was in bed sick (again... stupid stomach trouble that just will not go away...). Finally the guilt of knowing I should be at work made me drag myself out of bed and get dressed. I started to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, using a plastic spoon because of the kitchen upheaval. Still only half-alert, I dropped the spoon, and my peanut butter-loving dog grabbed it. Before I could stop her, she BIT OFF a piece of the plastic spoon and swallowed it.

Consultation with my vet confirmed there's not much to do except monitor her until she passes the piece of plastic. Oh, joy, I get to join my dog on her backyard excursions and watch her poop. :/ In the snow, if the weather forecast is to be believed.

But I won't let this ruin my enthusiasm. Barring any spoon-related complications, I'll continue working on the kitchen, and with luck, I'll have some finished projects to show you all soon.

In the meantime, feast your eyes upon my new sink.  ;)  Oooooh, shiny!

UPDATE Jan. 11: My dog yakked up the piece of plastic last night and is now totally fine.

  2. Ooo, tape and plastic everywhere - your preparations are much better than mine... Hope your dog poops soon! :)

    1. I've learned from my own mistakes that I'm better off covering/protecting everything within range of the paint roller. ;)

  3. Poor Bean! I hope she doesn't have any troubles passing that. Hopefully, since the shard is so small, it won't be an issue. One of my cats ate a piece of interfacing (yes, for sewing) that she passed entirely intact, and the other ate the fraying ends of a rag that she threw up on the carpet. Silly pets.

    1. Silly indeed. Dogs - and quite a few cats - have a very broad definition of "edible." And of course the humans are left with the aftermath. :P It's times like that when one says, "Tell me again why I wanted a pet..."

  4. That reminds me of that coffee that is feed to civet cats, then is collected from their poop, roasted, ground and brewed into poopaccino!

  5. You're inspirational! I'm scared to death of power tools - but considering how clumsy I am, that's probably not a bad thing ... ;D

    1. I think it's good to have a healthy fear of power tools! I'm clumsy, too, so I'm always hyper careful with the safety gear. For me, any tool beyond tape or a paintbrush calls for safety glasses at minimum. The more extensive safety kit - face mask, earplugs and safety glasses - can be cumbersome, and I wish I had a one-piece safety bubble that I could just pop over my head. :)

  6. Ouch! I hope sincerely that your dog will be safe while the spoon piece transports through her body :/
Nice to see that you have started with the kitchen :)

  7. I'm excited for the end results! I hope your dog is okay 0.0 I've been there before with our cat..who appears to enjoy eating earplugs.

    1. Thank you. Yeah, some pets have a real knack for swallowing weird objects. Mine isn't usually that type... she typically prefers to send me into a panic by falling off of things. :P

    1. Indeed. And I didn't have to follow her around the backyard. :)
