A Short Pant Rant

Not a rant about short pants, but a short rant about pants (jeans, actually).

I lost a few pounds and my jeans are too big. Much too big. I can take them off without unzipping them.

I went to the same store and bought the same brand, same style jeans in the next size down. They're too small. They're so tight, the fly doesn't lie flat.

Thank you, jeans maker, for giving me choices: Falling Off Loose or Immobilizing Tight.

ARGH! This is why I hate buying pants or jeans.

  1. Hopefully the weight loss was not from something awful. So sorry that you now have to do jeans shopping. I hate it too. It looks like you have a fantastic figure though.

    1. The weight loss was from eating healthier. :) Thank you. My figure is still too hip-heavy for many of my clothes, which are mostly size 10, but I'll get back there eventually. It will be like having a new wardrobe! :D

  2. I have a very large and round butt, coupled with a small waist and long, muscular legs. Pants are a nightmare. I've almost entirely given up pants for skirts and dresses, unless I'm doing an athletic activity. The only pants I've found in the past ten years that remotely fit are men's Levis and a pair of Lucky brand that my friend bought at Costco, of all places.

So good luck on your pants quest. Let us know if you have success.

    1. Agreed! Pants are a nightmare! You're looking at my entire collection of the dreaded two-legged garments - two pairs of jeans (both ill-fitting). Plus men's sweatpants that I wear at home.

When my hips were slimmer, I had pretty good luck with Levi's. I hope that may still be the case... but I won't know for a few more pounds. ;)

  3. Pants are actually made by Satan! This is basically my problem with every pair of pants ever, with slight variations of where the badly fitting bits are.

    1. Ha ha ha! That is so true!

The most common problem I have is a big gap at the waist, but I've found all sorts of ways that jeans can fit badly. Often they're too short... but then I've tried on jeans that were so long they puddled on the floor even with my boots on, when I'm 6' tall!

  4. YES! I also hate buying jeans/pants. I bought a pair of trousers online using the stores size chart and they were 3 inches TOO SMALL in the waist. Ummmm, yeah.

Stay strong my friend....and perhaps wear a belt ;) LOL!!!PS: you have a nice figure, if that's not too creepy to add.

    1. Ugh. It's annoying when you take the time to consult the size chart and then end up with something that fits so badly.

Yep, for now, I'll keep wearing the larger size with a belt.

Thank you. It's not creepy, it's good to hear. I feel like my hips are huge... but I guess we tend to be hypercritical of ourselves.

  5. And this is why I've stopped wearing any pants D: Jeggings are fine, though, because they are stretchy, so I don't have to chose whether I want to have like 20cm of free space around my waist or not being able to zip...

  6. Hahahaha jeans are IMPOSSIBLE! High waisted ones are the only ones that work on me but they kinda make my ass look long and flat from the side so that's the trade off. My waist is around 12 inches smaller than my hips and my legs are muscular so its v difficult to get anything to fit right.

Even before I lifted weights or anything jeans were still difficult.

    *shakes fist* :D

    1. I had about a 12-inch difference as well; it's more like 10 inches now, but still more than enough to cause frustration.

There's a shop here that sells jeans cut for super curvy women. They fit great, but the huge back pockets are covered with faux crystals and sparkles. I can't bring myself to wear LOOK AT MY BUTT jeans. :P

  7. Totally insane! But that's women's clothing for you. ::sigh::

    1. Indeed. I wonder if women's jeans designers have ever actually seen a woman.

  8. I totally agree with you, jeans especially really suck for getting a proper fitting pair!

    1. Jeans seem to fit no one properly... yet they're a staple of so many people's wardrobes. It's sort of funny.

  9. And here's why:

    1. True! Tailoring or altering clothes to get a proper fit can have a huge impact. Simply adding darts or tapering the sides can take a shirt from frumpy to chic.

Though it's not always about fitting the widest part... Almost all off-the-rack clothes are too short for me; a problem not easily fixed with alterations. One cannot tailor a sleeve to be 3" longer without adding fabric.

But the point is that too often we women view ourselves as "wrong" because clothes don't fit us. I once overheard a woman in a dressing room say "I can't fit this." Sadly, that is probably a more accurate way of expressing what many women think than "This doesn't fit me." We blame ourselves instead of the clothes.

I've gotten past most of that, thankfully. I used to practically cry over my broad shoulders and freakishly long arms. But now I just accept that blazers, jackets, and coats will never work for me, and build my wardrobe around stretchy cardigans instead.
